A gentle paddle with good company
What could be better than fresh air, gentle exercise and a good chat with like-minded people? Our Social Paddle sessions are designed for anyone who wants to slow down, connect with others and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of being out on the water.
There's no rush, no pressure and no experience necessary. Just turn up, grab a kayak and enjoy the harbour at whatever pace suits you.
More than just a paddle
The Social Paddle started as a simple idea - get people on the water who might not think of themselves as "kayakers". No wetsuits, no adrenaline, no Instagram-worthy feats of athleticism. Just a group of people, a stretch of beautiful water and the kind of unhurried conversation that only happens when you're floating side by side with nowhere particular to be.
We meet at the slipway, grab kayaks and set off together. The route depends on the conditions and the mood of the group - sometimes we'll head towards the harbour mouth, other times we'll poke into the creeks and see what the herons are up to. The pace is gentle. If you can hold a conversation, you're going fast enough.
What surprises people most is how quickly the group gels. There's something about being on the water together that strips away the usual awkwardness. By the time we're heading back to the slipway, phone numbers have been exchanged, next sessions have been planned and people who arrived as strangers are leaving as paddling mates. That's the whole point.
