An evening paddle as the sun goes down

Experience Chichester Harbour at the most magical time of day. This relaxed evening paddle is the perfect way to wind down - surrounded by tranquil waters, spectacular skies and the kind of light that makes everything look extraordinary.

Our most atmospheric tour and one that sells out fast. The harbour takes on a completely different character at sunset and you'll see it from a perspective that very few people ever get to enjoy.

When the harbour turns golden

We time the launch so that you're on the water as the light starts to change. The first twenty minutes feel like a normal paddle - relaxing in its own right, but then, gradually, everything starts to turn gold.

The sun drops towards the treeline and the water becomes a mirror. The sky shifts through an array of glorious colours somewhere between amber, rose and the inside of a seashell. The group goes quiet without anyone suggesting it. There are moments on this tour where the only sound is the drip of water off a paddle blade and that silence feels like a gift.

If the timing is right, we'll be out near the harbour mouth as the sun reaches the horizon. The light at this point is absurdly beautiful, photo perfect - no filter needed and reflected in the water all around your kayak. We paddle back in the last of the light, often spotting bats skimming the water as dusk settles in.

Preparing for your evening

  • What to Bring: A warm layer for after sunset. It cools down quickly on the water in the evening.
  • Photography: Waterproof phone cases recommended. You'll want to take photos.
  • Weather: Conditions need to be calm for this one. We'll reschedule if it's not going to be a good sunset.
