Paddle beneath the white chalk stacks of the Jurassic Coast
Sea kayak along the dramatic chalk coastline from Studland to Old Harry Rocks - towering white stacks that mark the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast. Explore caves, glide through arches, and discover beaches that can only be reached from the water.
A full-day adventure covering 16-20km of some of the most photogenic coastline in England.
Where the chalk meets the sea
We launch from Studland Bay and paddle south, following the coastline as it rises from sandy beach to towering white cliff. The chalk here is blinding in the sunshine - bright white against deep blue water and green headland and the formations get more dramatic with every stroke.
Old Harry himself is a stack of chalk standing alone in the sea, separated from the mainland by millennia of erosion. From the water, you can paddle right around him, through the gap between the stack and the cliff and into a world of caves, arches and hidden coves that the clifftop walkers above can only peer down at. We spend time exploring - every cave has a different character, a different sound and a different colour of light.
The coastline continues south towards Swanage and if conditions allow, we'll push further along the cliffs to see more of this extraordinary stretch. The return paddle takes us back along the same coast, but the light has changed and everything looks different. The chalk glows pink in the afternoon sun and the rocks you passed on the way out reveal details you somehow missed the first time.
