A peaceful paddle along a historic canal

Glide through calm waters bordered by reed beds, woodland and historic scenery on this relaxed canoe trip along the Basingstoke Canal. You'll travel in comfortable tandem canoes which are higher above the water, warmer and perfect for beginners, couples, and families.

No experience needed. This is a relaxed tour along a beautiful stretch of canal with good company.

Canoe on Basingstoke Canal

Slow paddling at its best

There's something about a canal that forces you to slow down. The water is flat, the banks are close and the only sound is the gentle dip of paddles and the occasional quack of protest from a duck who feels you're in their lane.

The Basingstoke Canal is one of the prettiest in the south of England. Tree-lined stretches give way to open meadows, reed beds rustle with unseen wildlife and every now and then a gap in the trees frames a view that'll make you reach for your phone. Our tandem canoes sit higher than kayaks, offering a more comfortable cruise (no soggy bottoms here!) There's also room to pack a picnic and a blanket to keep you warm.

This is the perfect opportunity for reluctant paddlers to embrace all that being on the water has to offer. No capsizing, no exertion, no special gear needed. Just a boat, a paddle and an afternoon that feels like it belongs in a different century.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience?
None at all. Canoes are very stable and easy to paddle. We'll give you a quick briefing before you set off.
Can children come?
Absolutely. Each canoe fits up to 2 adults and 2 children. It's one of our most family-friendly experiences.
Will I get wet?
Unlikely — canoes sit higher above the water than kayaks, so you stay drier. Wear something you wouldn't mind getting slightly splashed, just in case.
Is this guided?
Yes, a guide accompanies the group. They'll share some history of the canal and make sure everyone's comfortable on the water.
What time do I need to arrive for my booking?
Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before your session starts, so we can get everyone on the water on time.
