A day that answers your questions
Our Expeditions range from 2-5 days of paddling across lochs, canals and rivers with all your camping gear in the kayak. They are incredible trips, but a commitment. This taster day exists so you can find out whether you're ready before you make travel plans.
We load the kayaks with expedition kit - the same weight you'd carry on an expedition - and paddle Chichester Harbour for the day. It feels different with a loaded boat. It turns differently, it sits differently in the water and the paddling requires a different rhythm. We'll work on the techniques that matter most for multi-day trips: efficient paddling that you can sustain for hours, not just minutes.
Conditions permitting, we'll head beyond the harbour mouth to experience open-water paddling with a loaded kayak. We'll talk about what to expect on an expedition - the daily distances, the camping, the logistics and answer every question honestly. By the end of the day, you'll either be booking a multi-day adventure, or you'll know exactly what to work on before you do.

We load the kayaks with expedition kit - the same weight you'd carry on an expedition. This changes how the kayak handles, and the taster day teaches you the techniques for paddling efficiently with a loaded boat.
How fit do I need to be?
Fit enough for a full day of paddling. Some of our bigger expeditions involve 4-5 days of sustained paddling, so this taster day helps you gauge whether your fitness is expedition-ready.
What if I decide I'm not ready for an expedition?
That's exactly what this day is for. We'll give you honest feedback and suggest what to work on. Many people come back for the expedition a season later after building their endurance.

What time do I need to arrive for my booking?
Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before your session starts, so we can get everyone on the water on time.
