The content of the Core Coach Training is a course framed by, and similar to, the current Level 2 (UKCC) Unit Specification. Some elements have been strengthened or updated.
This is a British Canoeing affiliated course, please take a look at the syllabus, assessment and certification details found here:
This two day face-face training course introduces generic/shared coaching content that is relevant to all coaches at this level. There is flexibility for the training to be offered to mixed (all disciplines) or single discipline groups (e.g. a group of slalom coaches). It may be run back-to-back with Discipline Specific Training.
Coaches can repeat the course to support their on-going learning and it can be accessed as stand-alone training for continued professional development. The training will have no expiry.
Through a practical based course you will explore different approaches to coaching, understanding and enabling learning, and some core coaching skills. You will also be supported in evolving your personal coaching development plan to enable you to take your learning into practice after the course.
Once having done your core coach training, you can proceed to Discipline Specific Training when you feel ready (and when you have the prerequisites in place), or you can repeat the Core Coach Training if you wish to further develop your understanding of the content.
- BC/SC/CANI/CW comprehensive (full) membership.

You will also need a base level of knowledge about the discipline(s) you wish to coach; this provides the content of 'WHAT' you will be coaching. Whilst the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor eLearning covers the expected prior knowledge of the 'HOW' to coach content. Your course provider can provide further guidance.
We have no scheduled dates at the moment but if you're interested let us know and we will see what we can do for you!
Please note: coaches who have completed other British Canoeing training or assessment courses that have covered similar content can choose to by-pass the Core Coach Training if they feel confident with the content.
