The BC 3 Star Sea Kayak course is aimed at those budding paddlers who fancy taking their skills into paddling Sea Kayaks. We cover all the course content of the BC 3 Star Sea Kayak, putting specific emphasis on boat handing (especially turning), navigation skills and rescue skills. We will also aim to spend time working in a small tidal race, plus experiencing some small surf as part of the course. We use a range of training locations for this course, spending some time developing skills in the nice sheltered waters of Chichester Harbour, plus testing them out in the tidal flows out of various harbour entrances. We will also travel a bit to seek out the best locations for each day.

BC definition of a 3 Star Sea Kayaker:

Successful performance at this level indicates that a candidate can consider themselves as an able improving sea paddler rather than a beginner. During assessment the candidate would be able to demonstrate personal competence paddling in wind conditions of no more than Beaufort Force 3 or Sea State 3 as part of a led group.
NB: Wind scales and sea states used here are as advised by the Met Office.

We run this as a combined training and assessment scheme, if you’re not interested in being assessed, just stick around for the assessment day and see how the flow of an assessment goes - you’ll also learn more skills!
