The British Canoeing 3 Star Open Canoe course is an award which is aimed at an intermediate paddler.
Through this course we look at boat handling and personal paddling in open water, and on moving water. We run this course over 3 days, so you have time to learn and consolidate your skills without being rushed.
The BC 3 Star Open Canoe course is an award which is aimed at an intermediate paddler. We like this award as it is very flexible, allowing people of all standards to improve their skills and also teaching them to be safer on the water.
We run this course in accordance to the BC syllabus, making sure we pay particular attention to boat handling skills. Please take a look at the course syllabus, training, and assessment notes which can be found here:
Typically we will spend the three days of this course in multiple locations allowing you to learn the maximum which we can coach in the allotted time, in a variety of environments.
Day 1 - Chichester Harbour (or other sheltered venue) - We use this open environment to assess your current skills, and work on improving them.
Day 2 - Chichester Harbour - This day is all about paddling on open water and paddling in the wind.
Day 3 - River Adur - This day is all about paddling in moving water! The venue at Shoreham provides us with great options of places to coach, and places to travel.
We run this course as a combined training and assessment scheme, if you’re not interested in being assessed, you can stick around for the assessment day and see how the flow of an assessment goes - you’ll also learn more skills!
