Isle of Wight Crossing

A real staff favourite! Departing from Hayling Island we will paddle out to Horse Sands fort (one of the Napoleonic era forts constructed to defend Portsmouth), have a quick snack and assess the movements in the shipping channel. From there we will boldly paddle across the shipping channel (one of the busiest in the UK), to No Mans Land fort. It’s then a pleasant journey with the tide to Ryde for a well-earned bag of chips on the beach, whilst waiting for the tide to turn! The return journey is the opposite, again using the tide to help us travel back to Hayling Island.

This trip has a definite commitment required, so we need to verify beforehand that you are certainly up to it. When you are booking a space you’ll be asked to send a brief experience log, this just means that we can check you’re going to be comfortable sitting in a boat throughout the journey and able to continue paddling at a suitable pace. Obviously, once we get on the water and head offshore there will be no places to stop and get out before we reach the Isle of Wight.

With the committing nature of this trip taken into consideration, we run it with lower ratios than normal. We will also need to assess the weather in the days leading up to the trip to ensure they will be suitable, and that the trip is going to be manageable. Please note that last minute cancellations by us may occur if the weather conditions are not going to be suitable for the trip.
